Welcome to the

Pleasant Oaks Gem & Mineral Club

of Dallas, Texas

Home Page

Our monthly meetings are on the first Thursday of each month. We currently are meeting at the Bradfield Recreation Center, 1146 Castle Rd, Garland, TX except for the July meeting. We meet at 7:15 PM and finish at 8:45 PM or earlier. Each meeting we will have a presentation or a "hands-on" rockhound project.

Our July meeting is our traditional BBQ dinner meeting at Spring Creek BBQ. We will start on July 7 at 7:00 PM and will have some buy one - get one free coupons to pass out. We will meet at the Spring Creek BBQ in Richardson. It is on Central Expressway just north of Main Street, right next to the tall Chase Bank building. Please be on-time - SEE YOU THERE.

The Pleasant Oaks Gem and Mineral Club of Dallas (POGMC) is organized to promote interest in the various earth sciences, in particular, those areas dealing with the science of gems, minerals and fossils, the art of cutting and polishing gemstones, metal crafts, jewelry arts, and all related fields.  The club is a not-for-profit organization established for charitable and educational purposes.

POGMC publishes a monthly newsletter, the Chips and Chatter. Recent issues of the Chips and Chatter are available from the internet, see the Newsletter tab here or above. For the latest issue of the Chips and Chatter (July 2022) in Adobe PDF format, click here.

POGMC offers a unique way to learn the various aspects of our rock hound hobby. Periodically we have hands-on sessions which could include mineral identification, wire wrapping, gem tree fabrication, and other basic lapidary skills. If we are not holding a hands-on session then we will have a guest speaker or other presentation of general interest to all members. The Clubs also sponsors Field trips and shares these trips with other clubs in the Dallas - Fort Worth area.

POGMC is a member of the "South Central Federation of Mineral Societies" and is affiliated with the "American Federation of Mineralogical Societies".

Please spend some time looking around our website and if you like what you see, visit us at a meeting - visitors are always welcome. We would love to share our hobby with you.
